The Great Western Park residents association wanted a solution to the echo in the community centre so textiles artist, Anne Griffiths, suggested a community led project to make felt panels. As well as absorbing sound, these were also a way of residents making a mark on this new community space.
For this project Anne was thinking about the physical fabric of Great Western Park and the process of construction. Many different materials come together to create a home, and Anne invited workshop attendees to look at these under a microscope to look at patterns, shapes and colours as a starting point for designing felt panels. Each participant created a felt oblong which have been arranged together in a brick format to create a large wall based felt work.
